FIPD: Metallic Fuels Irradiation & Physics Database

FIPD is an organized collection of metallic fuel test pin data and documentation. The database includes pin operation conditions calculated using a collection of ANL analysis codes developed during the IFR program, including axial distributions for power, temperatures, fluences, burnup, and isotopic densities. The database also contains pin measured data from post-irradiation examination, including pin fission gas release and gas chemistry measurements, and axial distributions from profilometry, gamma scans, and neutron radiography. There is also an extensive collection of documents associated with different pins and experiments, including raw PIE data, design descriptions, safety analysis, and operational reports.

Recent Updates

Jan. 27, 2025
  • Adjusted nominal fuel slug diameter and smeared density for pins in X419/X420/X421 experiments to correspond with as-fabricated results rather than original design targets. Updated related operating conditions (fuel surface/centerline temperatures).
  • Corrected pin loading locations for X419A/B, pins T055, T066, T086. Corrected related operating conditions for affected pins.
Nov. 22, 2024
  • Added experiment X481, including documents, operating conditions, and subassembly PIE.
  • Added recovered documents for X482, including operational memos and PIE for pin T139.
  • Added EPMA metallography data for select pins in X419A, X420, X421, X423, and X425.
  • Added higher quality as-built loading diagrams for X441A, X447/A, X451A, X482B, X483A, X484, X485, and X486A.
  • Added X429B neutron radiography images.
Oct. 14, 2024
  • Added documents for X501
  • Added QA status of fission gas chemistry PIE data for X419, X420B, and X421A.
